Visit the majestic Ouzoud Waterfalls
The Ouzoud Waterfalls are located close to the village of Tanaghmeilt in the Azilal province some 150km from Marrakech. They are amongst the most well-known and visiting tourist destinations in Morocco and offer some of the most distinctive visuals in the country. The term ‘ouzoud’ translates as “the act of grinding grain”, and there are a substantial mills in the area including many that remain in use today.
What makes the falls so magical?
The waterfalls are also surrounded by picturesque orchards and green valleys, and efforts are consistently made by various associations to preserve the area. Ouzoud Falls is Africa’s second-largest waterfall at 330 feet, just 25 feet shorter than the very tallest. The area around the falls is largely untouched by tourism and is widely regarded as an oasis of peace away from the noise and fast pace of the city. Visitors often opt to dip their toes in the cold water and play with the monkeys. The walls offer epic views of the local villages and rolling hills. To make the most of your excursion, make sure you wear appropriate footwear and clothing. The falls are also popular with the locals as well as the tourists, with many families visiting to wash their clothes and allow their children to play in the water.
